Time to feel good with some Venezuelan funk, some awesome reggae and some classic hip hop...
Bel Air – Close To You (Dirty Soul Remix)
Kicking things off with a feel good house banger from Bel Air (not the Fresh Prince one though). This track is guaranteed to make you smile!
Los Amigos Invisibles – Ultra Funk
When you think of Venezuela, awesome funk music probably doesn’t spring to mind. To be fair, I
don’t really know what especially springs to mind when I think of Venezuela. Either way, this 90s
track sounds like it came straight out of the 70s. With some awesome Jazz piano, and a bit of cool (if not somewhat incomprehensible) Spanish lyrics, this track is bound to make you feel good.
Norman Greenbaum – Spirit In The Sky
This song might be timeless, but it took hardly any time at all to write. According to Greenbaum
himself, he wrote the song in 15 minutes after being inspired by a hearing a gospel song. Despite the gospel influence, Greenbaum is actually Jewish.
A Tribe Called Quest – Check The Rhyme
This hip hop feel good classic is upbeat and chilled, all at the same time. Coming from Tribe’s 1991 album The Low End Theory, the accompanying iconic video is the perfect match to the clever lyrics and awesome beats.
N.W.A – Express yourself
Normally N.W.A would make you have you fired up and angry rather than chilled and happy, but the group took a slight step towards the latter emotions with this early 90s remix of the James Brown original. Released whilst the whole group was still together and a force in the chart, this is a feel good tune with a message.
Damien “JR Gong” Marley – Khaki Suit
Coming from the seemingly infinite Marley gene pool, is Damien Marley. His upbeat reggae tune is guaranteed to have you smiling and skanking all at the same time. A highlight of this song is the mention of wearing "clarky boots" referring to the British Clarks shoe brand, which is very popular among Jamaican rappers. Who knew your old school shoes were super cool in Kingston?
