And this week, all the talk is about the gongs. That's right, we'll be chatting all things Oscars this week...

As you may well know, the nominations for the 89th Academy Awards were announced today, and so we'll be having a listen to the Best Original Song contenders this week. This award arguably one of the most diverse. While nitty dramas always seem to pick up a large share of the awards, classic, comic, cheerful and heartfelt songs have picked up the award.

From Adele's Skyfall to Bret McKenzie's Muppet or Man, songs of all variety have bagged the trophy, so it's definitely all to play for.

La La Land - Audition ( The Fools Who Dream)

While it's a tough call to pick a favourite to take home the gold, La La Land is looking strong with two tracks from their fresh sound track earning nominations. The first nomination is a solo effort from the film's leading lady, the relatable funny girl, Emma Stone.

The story dreaming and reaching that is La La Land can be perfectly summarised in this song about just that.

La La Land - City of Stars

The second nomination landed by the phenomenal film by Damien Chazelle is it's theme. Throughout the must-see film the song is reprised in whole host of ways, but the full version is nothing less than heart warming.

City of Stars is a duet performed by the two leads, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Once again, it's all things Hollywood. It's effortlessly romantic and dreamy, two things the film does so elegantly. This song marries so seamlessly with the movie that it is a definite front runner for the Oscar.

This Disney theme unites two proven young talents: Lin-Manuel Miranda, who created the massive hit musical Hamilton, and Alessia Cara, who continues to pump out popular singles since debuting with Here in 2015.

Animation track's have a record of picking up award in this category, most recently Frozen won the gong for the sensational hit Let it Go.

Sting, along with composer- producer- songwriter J. Ralph will compete in the category with The Empty Chair from the documentary Jim: The James Foley Story. This is the third nomination for Ralph, who was under consideration for music from 2015’s Racing Extinction and 2012’s Chasing Ice and the fourth Oscar nod for Sting, whose last appearance in the category came in 2003 with music from Cold Mountain.

Trolls - Can't Stop the Feeling

Who would have ever though it? Justin Timberlake (the mastermind behind Bringing Sexy Back) is up for an Oscar? Justin Timberlake recruited one of the best pop songwriters in history, Max Martin, to help with Can't Stop the Feeling. The result: an unstoppable hit that debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100. It's Timberlake's fifth No. 1 as a solo artist and Martin's 22nd as a songwriter.
