Hit the ground running this week, this playlist is guaranteed to get your week started the right way...
We're bidding a fond goodbye to Mellow Mondays, make way for a more up-beat start to your week with Monday Madness. Our cheerful and enthusiastic songs are perfect for that morning drive to work, or to whack on for a bit of work in the day or evening so sit back and have a listen.
Lets face it, if a song can get you fired up enough to hit the gym, what can't you do? Possibly one of the best feel-good tracks of the millennium so far, it's a just what you need on a dreary, miserable Monday in the middle of winter.
Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
In an interview, Culture Club's frontman, Boy George, said: "The song is about the terrible fear of alienation that people have, the fear of standing up for one thing. It's about trying to suck up to everybody. Basically, if you aren't true, if you don't act like you feel, then you get Karma-justice, that's nature's way of paying you back." We think this is a pretty inspirational song that has, far and away earned a spot in our Monday Madness playlist.
Rupert Holmes - Escape (The Piña Colada Song)
Let's face it, we'd all rather be on a beach somewhere sipping on a piña colada so our next pick is a little trip there. Contrary to popular belief, The Piña Colada Song, was not its original name, Rupert Holmes was incredibly reluctant to change the name after he was told it would help him climb the charts. Which it did.
Rihanna- Work (Feat. Drake)
It's hardly a new point/ joke, but when you're doing work, listing to Work is and absolute must. It's not at all difficult to understand why this track enjoyed week after week at the top spot in the UK charts earlier this year.
Christina Aguilera - Candyman
Don't tap your foot. I dare you. The feel-good, dance spirit of this class tune is something you can't ignore, it's bound to shake off those Monday blues. According to Aguilera and Perry, the song was a tribute to The Andrews Sisters' 1941 hit Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, but her signature belting vocals transformed it into one of the best-sellers of the noughties.
Earlier this year, this nineties classic celebrated its 20th birthday and got the whole country back in spice mode. It is impossible to listen to the girl band extraordinaire group with a frown, so they are the perfect choice to round off the first of our Monday Mandess playlists.
