The soundtracks that are as iconic as the film itself...

We are on a constant hunt to find the best of the best in the music world. With 2016 drawing to a close it's time for us to start thinking about where the best tracks of the year have come from. So this is the first in an edition of features on the best of 2016. To kick off the series, we're going to have a look at the best soundtracks of the year.

5. La La Land

It's hard to give this soundtrack its full credit based on one, all too crucial detail, it hasn't actually been released in the UK yet. We have bits and pieces to go on, and that is enough to land it in the top five. A film about music is bound to have some magical tunes, and the duet by the films co-stars, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, captures the sparkle or the film. If this song is anything to go by, we're in for a treat when this soundtrack is released in full.

4. Arrival

While this might not be a soundtrack you would put on for dancing or belting along to in the car, it has earned its spot in the top five because it does what it says on the tin. The score is a beautiful compliment to the drama of such an emotional film starring Oscar nominated actress Amy Adams alongside Jeremy Renner. There's not a moment of the film that isn't perfectly suited to the accompanying track, it's a rare example of a film that is enhanced by such a well planned soundtrack.

3. Suicide Squad

While this was potentially the most highly anticipated film of 2016, with promo launching back in 2014, it was also one of the biggest disappointments of the year. One of the film's only saving grace's was the memorable soundtracks, featuring Action Bronson, Grimes, Mark Ronson, The Black Keys and Twenty One Pilots, who provided the theme song for the action flick.

2. The Nice Guys

This soundtrack is a genuine pleasure to listen to, in and out of the film content. The down and dirty cop film is blessed with a perfect 80s vibe thanks to the flawless playlist. The playlist ties together the moods of each scene while taking you back on a journey. Using songs from the era a film is set in rather than throwing out some new 80s-esk tunes, has gone a long way and done this flick a lot of favours.

1. Deadpool

Finally to the top spot, Deadpool has claimed Chooniverse's title, best movie soundtrack of 2016. When this explicit film dropped earlier this year, this unbelievable soundtrack roared to top the albums charts, and it's not difficult to understand why. It's packed with rapping galore and comedic rom-com classic which offset the violence and perfectly compliment Ryan Reynold's humour.
