Can you feel it coming in the air tonight?

The return of Phil Collins that is. After ten years of intense silence, the Genesis singer is making a temporary return to the stage.

The 80s star will be heading up a five-night run at the Royal Albert Hall next June, with a few dates set for Cologne and Paris.

In an interview with the BBC, he said: “I think I'll be just singing. I don't think I'll ever be able to play the way I used to.

“It’s just a question of getting my strength back. I thought I would retire quietly.

“But thanks to the fans, my family and support from some extraordinary artists I have rediscovered my passion for music and performing.

“I changed my mind. I'm living with my young kids and they want me to go out on the road, do some new things, and there's no reason why not.”

But what has the musician been up to for the last decade?

The singer’s return to the stage marks the end of his struggles with alcohol. When he took a step out of the spotlight Phil began to struggle with his new-found spare time and began drinking.

In his autobiography he said: "It took me until the age of 55 to become an alcoholic. I got through the heady 1960s, the trippy 1970s, the imperial 1980s, the busy 1990s. I was retired, content, and then I fell. Because I suddenly had too much time on my hands."

The 65-year-old began to binge following both the end of his music career as well as the collapse of his nine year marriage. In a recent interview he confesses that he “nearly died” as a result of his alcoholism.
